Microsoft Copilot is an advanced AI assistant integrated across Microsoft 365 apps and Windows, enhancing productivity through intelligent automation. Powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Microsoft’s Prometheus model, Copilot helps users draft emails in Outlook, create documents in Word, analyse data in Excel, and design presentations in PowerPoint. It also functions within Teams and Windows 11, streamlining daily workflows across the Microsoft ecosystem.
In 2025, Microsoft expanded Copilot’s capabilities with features like Copilot Vision, which can understand and interact with on-screen content in real-time. The AI also supports voice commands and can connect information across apps, making it more context-aware. The new Copilot Pro subscription provides premium features, including priority access to models, custom Copilot creation, and integrated image generation using GPT-4.
Microsoft also introduced Copilot Notebooks and reusable prompt workflows, enabling users to build their own intelligent assistants. Enterprise adoption is growing rapidly, with over one million seats committed from sectors such as defence and government.
With a dedicated Copilot key on new keyboards and a native Mac app, Microsoft is positioning Copilot as a central tool in modern digital work. It marks a major shift toward AI-driven productivity, transforming how individuals and organisations get work done.
