NEET Chemistry - 01 Atoms, Bonds and the Mole
Master core chemistry fast: classify matter, Dalton’s theory, laws of combination, sig figs, the mole, stoichiometry, solutions, atomic structure, orbitals, Lewis structures, bonding, VSEPR, hybridization, MO theory, and intermolecular forces.
Imagine being able to look at a chemical formula, a lab result, or a bonding diagram—and actually know what it means.
You’ll start by sorting matter the right way: solids, liquids, and gases by shape, volume, and compressibility, then pure substances vs. mixtures (including clear examples like air, sugar solution, and sand in water). From there, Dalton’s atomic theory and the key laws of chemical combination make experimental data feel logical, from conservation of mass to Avogadro’s idea that equal gas volumes contain equal numbers of molecules.
Next comes the math that powers chemistry. You’ll practice significant figures, dimensional analysis, atomic and formula masses (including isotope averages like chlorine), and the mole concept—converting between mass, moles, particles, and gas volume at STP. You’ll learn how to get empirical and molecular formulas from percent composition, and how to solve stoichiometry problems with limiting reagents, percent yield, molarity vs. molality, and dilution (M₁V₁ = M₂V₂).
Then the focus shifts to structure and bonding: isotopes and nuclear notation, electromagnetic radiation and the photoelectric effect, the hydrogen spectrum, Bohr’s model and why it breaks down, and the quantum mechanical view with orbitals, quantum numbers, and electron configurations. Finally, you’ll connect Lewis structures, formal charge, VSEPR shapes, hybridization, molecular orbitals, hydrogen bonding, and intermolecular forces—so you can explain both reactions and real-world properties.
